Week 2-13 to 2-16

Welcome to a short........but busy week!!!!  Last week we finally finished our oral book projects!  They were great!  Also, they presented their speeches.... I was very impressed that everyone memorized them.  Our three students who will represent the fourth grade at the Merced County Speech Festival are:  Emma Eastman, Emily Featherston, and Jared Hoffart!!! Go 4th graders!  Congratulations!

Are you in need of volunteer hours??? I am in need of a parent to type the student entries for the Merced County Writing Festival.  Please see me ASAP.  They need to be typed and returned to me by next Wed.2-22.  Thank You.  I am also in need of a few parents to help in the classroom.  If you have a day you can volunteer each week, please let me know.  Thanks for your continued support.

Even though it's a short week, we will have a spelling and reading unit with a test on Thursday 2-16.

Valentine's Day is Tuesday.  Students may bring in valentines- for each student- that day to pass out.  We will be having a little party and treat that afternoon.

February 24- we will be doing the Stations of the Cross for the school.  Please come and join us 8:15 am in the auditorium.

week 1-9-2012

We are in full swing of 3rd quarter!  Please check the blog each week and your child's planner each day.  We are going to be moving at a faster pace, and there will be project dates and test dates given.  It's a good idea to get a calendar to write all important dates and keep it where both you and your child can refer to it.  Organization is the key to success!

Your child will be given a topic on Macedonia to research.  Please help them to find info and pictures for poster boards that we will be doing in class.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE A TRI-FOLD, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.  I WILL NEED 3 OR 4.   Students will need to jot down facts, in their own handwriting, onto index cards so they can be posted on boards.  Some info will obviously need more than one card, but when info is put on cards, each student will have something up at International Night. Their topics will be given out this week.

On Wednesday i-11-2012 we will be visiting Park Merced ( on M st.) for an 11:00 communion service.  These are the parents in need who have volunteered to drive:
Hanley, Bliss, Garza, Horal, Mendonca, Pellicano, Suggs.  If you are unable to drive , please call 722-7496 asap.  Thank you.

Writing

We will begin a writing unit - Persuasive.  We will be working on this all week.  The students will write an essay and present their essay as a speech.  The top 2 students will be chosen to represent the fourth grade in the Merced County Speech festival.  The essay will be turned in first for editing and revising.  Then they will be given a week to memorze their writing.  They may use cards to help them, but the majority of their essay must be memorized.  All important dates will be posted on the blog an written in their planner.  You will want to help them stay organized so they are ready.
