 Week 10-8 to 10-11

First Quarter has been a lot of work in progress.  Students have learned that they need to be responsible for many things.  They should be asking you each night to sign their planners.  Nightly it is to be signed three times.  One for doing practice on basic math facts, another for doing their nightly reading, and the third time is for checking the planner for the days events and assignments.  I appreciate your support in this matter.  I hope that clears up any confusion.
They are responsible for getting all work completed on time.  Any assignments that are not finish during the day, need to be completed that night.  Also, any other assignments deemed as homework needs to completed that night as well. This is why going over the planner WITH YOUR CHILD BEFORE YOU SIGN IT IS SO IMPORTANT!
They also need to be responsible in taking any letters or forms home that need your attention.  Please remind them or ask them if there is anything that was sent home.  You should not have to clean out your child's backpack.  Please help me by encouraging good habits; this will help them to become more responsible.

I really appreciate all you do to support your child in 4th grade!!! Our job is to get them ready for 5th grade and beyond!

Week 9/24 to 9/28

Reminder:
Math facts practice-15 min.- is now nightly homework, and test will count as a math grade.  A great way to practice is the old school way ------with flashcards.  They need to have these facts down in order to do well in math class.  Thank you for your help in this matter!

Nightly reading- 20 min.- is also nightly homework.  Students are now required to complete a book every 3 to 4 weeks and complete a book project.  I give them 15 min. in class, but that is not enough for most kids to get their book in the time given to complete the assignment.

Blog should be check EVERY WEEK.  Many of you are, and I thank you!!!!!

Testing Week reminders:

During testing week it is important to have your children get plenty of rest.  No homework will be given to help students get to sleep early.  Please make sure they have had a balanced breakfast.  Encourage your child to do their very best.  These tests are crucial in planning curriculum.  These tests help teachers plan appropriate lessons to meet the needs of their students.

Testing will be mornings from 8:30 to 11:30.  Please do not check your child for appointments during this time.  Thank you for your support.

Lesson plans  and times will be inconsistent because of testing but here are some of the things that we will do this week.

Math
  • pgs 40-41
  • 42-43
  • 46-47
Science
  • We will work on lesson 3. We will read and complete the note sheet for this lesson
  • We will be doing some lab activities
 Handwriting

Writing
  • We will be doing a narrative writing unit.  Students we learn and complete each part of the writing process.  Writing will be done in class.  Parents will be asked to help with the editing / proofreading process over the next weekend.  Their rough draft will be completed in class- and go home on Friday for you to review with them.  They will be rewriting their final draft during class on Monday 9/24.

  • Upcoming info:

Students have been learning the process of note taking in science.  We will be learning how to outline in social studies.  This will help aid in the development of good study skills and habits.  That will begin next week 9/24.
Students are struggling with their basic math facts.  This is the crucial foundation to success in math.  Starting the week of 9/24 practicing 15 min each night in their basic facts will be nightly homework.  They will be tested twice each week,  and their test scores will become part of their math grade.  To improve, practice must be a consistent effort.  If you help your child practice the basics, you'll see an overall improvement in 4th grade math.
