This is a short week, and a long weekend- no school Friday or Monday next week!

For those who have asked about donating items to the class, these are a few things we need:

Correction about Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday Mass is next Wednesday not today. It will be Wednesday February 13.  Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused .

The ground hog said 6 weeks until spring!!!!!!  I'm looking forward to the nice weather! 

• This week the students will be giving their speeches in class, and I can't wait to hear them.  3 students will be chosen to represent the 4th grade at the Merced County Speech Festival later this month.

• There will be an English test on capitalization and punctuation this Friday.  

• We will be having a math test on Ch 5/Division next Monday.

• Book Projects will be due next Monday- Students must be ready to present their projects to the class starting Monday2/11.

Reading
Students will be giving their speeches all week. A final draft- typed- will be Due this Friday 2/8.
Students will be given a grade in English for the writing, and in reading for the oral presentation.

Progress reports go home this Friday.  They must be signed and returned by Monday 2/11.  Thank you very much!

Week 1-14-2013

It's the 2nd week back from Christmas vacation , and 3rd quarter is in full swing!  Next week we will have our WASC accreditation visiting our school for a few days.  Please make sure you discuss with them or remind them about following rules, proper uniform, and being welcoming to our visitors.  I know that the 4th graders are usually very well behaved and know how to treat newcomers, so I am not worried.  But a little reminder would be helpful, thank you for your support.
Don't forget that Thursday is  HALF DAY AND THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, YEAH! OR MONDAY, YIPPEE!!

Language Arts

We will continue discussing persuasive writing.  We will begin writing a persuasive speech about healthy foods and growing a garden.   The students will write an essay, memorize it , and give it as a speech in class- dates to be announced. 

Next week we will be writing the essay and finish it the following week.  Final draft will be due on Monday 12/28.  Speeches will begin the week of Feb. 11- SO THEY NEED TO HAVE IT MEMORIZED BY THEN!  THANKS
